LSU Tigers running back Derrius Guice destroys the Louisville Cardinals defense on this magnificent 70-yard touchdown run in the Citrus Bowl.

The LSU Tigers were having themselves a field day against the Louisville Cardinals in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31. LSU was stout defensively against 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson of Louisville. The Tigers also seem to be doing just fine without running back Leonard Fournette.

Already up 16-6 on Louisville, Tigers running back Derrius Guice exploded through a hole in the defense to find pay dirt 70 yards later. By the time he got to the Louisville 40-yard line, there was zero chance a Cardinals defensive player was going to catch him.

While Fournette gets all the national notoriety, it might end up being Guice that has the better NFL career. This running back is shiftier than Fournette and has been a productive tailback for the entire 2016 season.

Fournette will likely go in the first-round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but it remains to be seen if his north/south running style will translate to the next level. Guice has been there for the Tigers when they needed him the most. LSU is not by nature an explosive offense, but Guice has been the best offensive player on this 2016 Tigers team all season.

Guice is only a true sophomore for the 2016 LSU football team. He will return as maybe a Heisman hopeful for Ed Orgeron’s 2017 Tigers team. Like Fournette, Guice could probably go pro after his junior season in Baton Rouge. He’s able to beat opposing defenses with both speed and power. His agility might have the eye of NFL scouts already.

Louisville has had a terrible end to its 2016 NCAA season. Losses to Houston and Kentucky knocked the Cardinals out of a New Year’s Six bowl. They really didn’t want to play LSU on New Year’s Eve in the Citrus Bowl anyway.
