Ohio State Buckeyes safety Malik Hooker showed ridiculous range and picked off Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson in the end zone.
While the Ohio State Buckeyes started the Fiesta Bowl off struggling on offense, they were making some plays on defense. Deshaun Watson threw an early pick and although they did nothing with it, they were able to get him again thanks to Malik Hooker.
As the Tigers were driving the field looking to extend their lead over the Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff, Watson threw deep to wide receiver Hunter Renfrow in the end zone. That’s when Hooker somehow managed to cover the range of the field and cut off Renfrow for the incredible interception.
Watching Hooker on the play, he’s inside the hash marks on the field and he manages to play center field so well that he put himself in position to make the interception. There aren’t many safeties out there that have that type of range on the field.
For Watson, it was his second interception of the game and one he would probably like to have back. Although, it’s hard to really blame him on this one as he put the ball exactly where he wanted it to go.
This interception was all Hooker and he showed just how important it is to have a safety with plenty of range in a game against one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. Ohio State hasn’t had many highlights but this was one of them.
