Everton face Southampton at Goodison on Monday. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Southampton have endured a difficult festive period and go into the Everton match after suffering consecutive home defeats for the first time this season.
Maybe it’s the perfect time for Southampton to take their show on the road.
Unfortunately, the Saints are forced to play without two of their best players, as Charlie Austin and Virgil van Dijk are unavailable for selection. Austin, who has six Premier League goals, is out with a shoulder injury while Van Dijk is missing through suspension.
Van Dijk has been tenuously linked to a big-money January move to Goodison and will be sorely missed on Monday. Southampton have conceded six goals in two games, which is uncharacteristic for a usually stingy defensive side.
The Saints have won only one in six away from the Stadium of Light, a poor run of form which includes losses to Crystal Palace and Hull City, two of the Premier League’s basement dwellers.
Compounding matters further, Southampton have failed to score a goal in three of six on the road.
Everton have lost only one game at Goodison Park this season and should have enough to get over the line against a depleted Southampton squad. Everton are unbeaten in 11 home Premier League games against the Saints, so history is also on the Toffees’ side.

Southampton trail Everton by three points in the standings and, with a win, would draw level on 27 points. The Saints, however, haven’t done the double on Everton since the 1997/98 campaign, a record that will remain intact upon the conclusion of Monday’s match.
