NFL Rumors: Rams eyeing Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels
The Los Angeles Rams are seeking permission to interview both Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels as they look for a new head coach
After firing Jeff Fisher, the Los Angeles Rams are looking for a new head coach. Because they are in a unique market, they must find a way to get a credible coach. Otherwise, fans in Los Angeles might not pay much attention to them. Two of the top coaching candidates this offseason include New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and their offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. According to Adam Schefter, the Rams have requested to interview both of them.
Los Angeles might have to wait for them, as the Patriots are currently in the playoffs. However, either of the two would make a great coach for the Rams. Patricia is the more unproven of the two, with no prior head coaching experience. However, he has been the architect of New England’s defense, which remains elite despite losing guys like Jamie Collins and Chandler Jones. Patricia has been with the Patriots since 2012. Bill Belichick trusts him a lot, which is quite the endorsement.
McDaniels is a bit of a wild card. While he has experience as a head coach, his time with the Denver Broncos was unforgettably terrible. However, McDaniels was among the youngest coaches in NFL history at the time. He is older and wiser now. McDaniels has been the genius behind the Patriots consistently great offense. Obviously, Tom Brady plays a large role in this. However, even without Rob Gronkowsi, New England’s offense has been elite. That’s quite telling of how good McDaniels is.
