Here’s how to watch Monday evening’s Rose Bowl matchup between USC and Penn State online.
Opening the season with a 52-6 loss to Alabama and then two more losses in the next three games, it seemed clear that USC wasn’t deserving of its preseason ranking. However, the Trojans won eight games in a row to close out the season, even beating playoff-invitee Washington.
Now USC will get a shot to take on Penn State in the Rose Bowl. Clay Helton has done a phenomenal job turning things around this season and the Trojans look to be the best team from the Pac-12 to not make it to the College Football Playoff.
Sam Darnold took over at quarterback after a few games and he turned things around for the Trojans. He passed for 2,633 yards and 26 touchdowns with eight interceptions and JuJu Smith-Schuster was his favorite target. Ronald Jones II also surpassed 1,000 rushing yards.
Penn State, like USC, finished the season red-hot after a sluggish opening month. The Nittany Lions were just 2-2 after four games, including a 49-10 loss to Michigan, and 2016 had the feeling of James Franklin’s last as the head coach.
However, things turned around and the Nittany Lions won their next nine games, including a Big Ten Championship victory over Wisconsin, which was a comeback win. Trace McSorley played exceedingly well in his first season as the starting quarterback.
McSorley has plenty of top receiving targets such as DaeSean Hamilton and Chris Godwin, but Saquon Barkley is the top offensive weapon. He rushed for 1,302 yards and 16 touchdowns this season as a sophomore.
