Manchester United look to add to their five game winning streak against West Ham in the first game of 2017. It took a miraculous comeback to get the win against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford in their last game.
On top of dealing with the brutal schedule, with only one day of rest, Jose Mourinho will be without Wayne Rooney and Daley Blind, both out injured, as well as Eric Bially who will be out on national team duty with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations. Michael Carrick will be available as he returns from an illness.
Manchester United has shown improvement in their level of play in the last few games, as their summer signings, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic and to some extent Paul Pogba have begun to settle into the squad and contribute decisively to the win streak. Even though the wins have not come against any top of the table teams, these are exactly the types of wins Mourinho’s team needs to stay in the hunt for the title.
On the other side, Slaven Bilic may be without captain Mark Noble who is a game time decision due to injury concerns. West Ham had been on a mini run on their own before their three-game win streak came to an end on Saturday at Leicester.
