Projected college basketball rankings after Villanova’s loss at Butler

Here’s what Monday’s top 10 might look like after Butler knocked off Villanova
It’s been five weeks since we’ve had a new team atop the college basketball rankings, but after the Butler Bulldogs took down the Villanova Wildcats at Hinkie Fieldhouse, it’s time. With the court storming out of the way, here’s your new top 10.
1. Baylor – After achieving a program high ranking in this week’s poll, the Bears move up into the top spot. The good news is that the polls now match the resumes. Baylor’s got the best one in the country with wins over Louisville, Oregon and Xavier.
2. Villanova – The Wildcats have sat atop the polls for the last five weeks, but no more. A road loss against a top 25 opponent isn’t worth much of a drop, but drop they must. They fall just one spot.
3. Kansas – The Jayhawks needed a couple extra steps to close out Kansas State on Tuesday night, but they remain undefeated in a Big 12 that is stacked at the top of the league.
4. UCLA – The Bruins have already suffered their fall for losing to Oregon last Friday. Lonzo Ball and company are still plenty good enough to win a national title with one of the most efficient offenses in the country.
5. Gonzaga – The Bulldogs remain undefeated and overlooked. They’ve got one of the best offenses in the country and legitimate chance at running the table in the regular season.
6. Kentucky – Few teams are set up to blow out struggling opponents than the Wildcats. They manhandled Texas A&M on Tuesday. The Aggies lack of a true point guard loomed large in a game where they committed 25 turnovers.
7. Duke – Grayson Allen returned from his indefinite suspension after just one game as the Blue Devils blew out the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Mike Krzyzewski’s final game before his leave of absence.
8. Louisville – The Cardinals face a tough test tonight at Notre Dame, but they own wins over Kentucky and Purdue. Their hybrid zone defense is the best in the country.
9. Creighton – Yes, the Blue Jays lost at home to Villanova last week, but they’ve still got one of the nation’s top backcourts and plenty of quality role players.
10. West Virginia – Villanova wasn’t the only top 10 team to lose this week. The Mountaineers fell in overtime at Texas Tech on Tuesday, so they fall a few spots from seventh.
