Report: Cavaliers closing in on acquiring Kyle Korver
According to Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks are closing in on a deal centered around Kyle Korver.
The NBA trade deadline isn’t for a while, but that hasn’t stopped the rumors from flying in fast. It also hasn’t stopped teams from getting ready to pull the triggers on deal. According to The Vertical‘s Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania, Kyle Korver could be on the move.
Wojnarowski tweeted out that the Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers were working on a deal that would land Korver in a Cavaliers uniform. The tweet didn’t say what else the Hawks or Cavaliers would be shipping out.
The Cavaliers have one of the highest payrolls in the league currently, which means they had to send something out to be able to afford to fit Atlanta into their cap space. It’s not clear if a third team is being used to facilitate a deal or if this is just a straight up trade between the two sides.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Hawks are beginning to make moves either. Everyone’s waiting to see if Paul Millsap will eventually be moved after reports came out saying he was going to opt out of his deal at the end of the season.
Update:
According to Eric Pincus, the Cavaliers are believed to be sending Mo Williams and a heavily protected first-round pick to Atlanta. Because of other obligations with the pick, it could be a while before the Hawks receive it.
Update #2
It appears that with the obligation of the pick that the Cavaliers owe Atlanta and Portland, that the Hawks will probably get it earlier than expected now. Brian Windhorst is reporting the Cavaliers will ship their 2017 first to the Trail Blazers to get their 2018 one back.
With younger pieces on the roster and the Hawks transitioning toward retooling their roster as they remain competitive in the Eastern Conference, moves are going to be made. Shipping out Korver is probably the first of many.
