Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter was arrested on Sunday night, after his team defeated the Miami Dolphins in an AFC Wild Card game.
Well if you’re in the Pittsburgh Steelers front office, this probably won’t make the list of acceptable ways to celebrate a win. On Sunday afternoon, Steelers assistant coach and former All-Pro linebacker Joey Porter was taken into custody after an altercation with police. Deadspin was among the first to break the story.
Earlier in the day, the Steelers decimated the Miami Dolphins an in AFC Wild Card game to advance to the divisional round. Hours after the game, Porter found himself arrested and in the back seat of a law enforcement vehicle.
This came after security guards from The Flats, a PIttsburgh-area bar, contacted police about an unruly customer. That customer turned out to be Porter. The Steelers have released a statement, noting their awareness of the situation:
"We are aware of an incident tonight involving Joey Porter. We are still gathering information as it pertains to the situation, and we will have no further comment until we get more details."
Obviously this is not the kind of attention PIttsburgh needs, as it now prepares for a divisional showdown next Sunday in Kansas City. This is a distraction that the team will handle and hopefully will have resolved in the coming days. As of 10:15 P.M. CST, there were no further details that had been released about the incident.
