Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough shed the Clemson defense for a score in the early part of the second quarter of the CFP National Championship Game.

So far, Bo Scarbrough and Alabama have had a successful night against Clemson. They are not blowing out the Tigers, but they have contained quarterback Deshaun Watson and limited the rest of their offense, despite the positive field position throughout. Scarbrough has greatly aided the effort with a 25-yard touchdown in the first quarter to put the Crimson Tide up, 7-0.

In the second quarter, the score would remain the same. With Alabama once again in Clemson territory, Scarbrough received the handoff. He attacked the defense, avoided and shed tackles, and ran into the end zone for the 37-yard touchdown. This put Nick Saban and Co. up, 14-0.

Clemson would once again be stopped on their ensuing drive, leading to Alabama taking over in the middle of the second quarter.

This game has been all Alabama so far, even though quarterback Jalen Hurts is not dominating by any means. Following the Scarbrough touchdown, he had just 19 passing yards on 10 attempts. His counterpart, Watson, only had 37 yards on 11 attempts, numbers that do not represent what the Heisman Trophy runner-up did throughout the 2016 season.

Scarbrough, however, is easily setting himself up as the star of the game and potential MVP if Alabama holds on to win. He already has over 60 yards rushing and two touchdowns with the second half not even here yet. His performance has been the tempo of this game, which is ground and pound, especially from the No. 1-ranked team’s side.

Bo Scarbrough could still be in store for another touchdown or two as the game continues. This may be guaranteed if Alabama continues to go to the ground to find their offense in the CFP National Championship game.
