Deshaun Watson dances inside pylon for Clemson touchdown (Video)
With the Clemson Tigers needing a big score, star quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Deshaun Watson came up huge with his legs
The Clemson Tigers seemed almost wholly overwhelmed by the Alabama Crimson Tide’s vaunted defense in the first half of the College Football Playoff National Championship game. Deshaun Watson looked completely out of his comfort zone for the most part, especially on critical plays to sustain drives or potentially put points on the board. However, all he needed was to get one moment of brilliance to make it a game with his team still just trailing by two scores.
After piecing together a nice drive down the sidelines with the helps of the likes of Mike Williams and Deon Cain, Clemson and Watson made their way into the red zone. That’s when the two-time Heisman Trophy finalist put the onus on himself to make a big play and get the points the Tigers needed.
Bouncing out to the right side, Alabama’s defense predictably penetrated well and put pressure on him. The sure-tackling Reuben Foster got after him and seemed to have a chance to wrap up the quarterback’s legs. Instead, Foster couldn’t get a hold of the quick Watson and the quarterback then tip-toed down the sidelines and dance inside the pylon for a massive six points:
That’s an absolute picture-perfect display of what Watson brings to the table.

No question that the Clemson quarterback struggled for most of the first half trying to get full drives going. But once he got within striking distance, he used his unique skills and athleticism to capitalize. Even if there are flaws, that type of playmaking is a big reason why draft scouts like what he brings to the table.
