Dabo Swinney’s emotional speech credits ‘love’ for Clemson win (Video)
Overcome with emotion, Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney credited the ‘love’ his team shared for their national championship victory
Dabo Swinney has been, if nothing else, a quote-machine since taking over as head coach for the Clemson Tigers football team. From phrases like “BYOG: Bring Your Own Guts” to countless others, Swinney has been wildly entertaining from A to Z. So when his Tigers were able to dethrone the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday night to win the College Football Playoff National Championship game, it was on to see what the coach would say.
And just as you would expect and hope, an emotional Swinney got a microphone in front of him and delivered another gem of a speech.
While getting choked up several times while talking with ESPN, Swinney covered a ton of ground. Sure, he hit the same notes that he has all season. The head coach talked about getting Clemson football back to the pinnacle of the sport and about Deshaun Watson being the best player in the country. However, there was one quote that stood out—and that will likely be remembered well after. Swinney said that he told his players that “love” would win the game on Monday night, talking about the love that his players and team shared.
Love indeed, national champions head coach Dabo Swinney. Here’s the full post-game speech below:
While he may be a master of giving us a great, entertaining quote, Dabo Swinney is also one hell of a football coach.

Obviously it’ll be interesting to see what’s next for Swinney and Clemson. With Watson and many others, there’s a lot of talent walking out the door after this season. However, they can’t have this 2016 title taken away from them. And no matter what happens, the inspirational and emotional leader, Swinney, will be at the helm.
