Joel Embiid gets destroyed by the rim on dunk attempt (Video)
It takes a lot to block Joel Embiid, but the rim proved to be enough to conquer the Process on Wednesday night.
Joel Embiid has provided plenty of positives for the Philadelphia 76ers throughout the 2016-17 season. This comes after missing his first two years in the NBA due to injuries. Coming into Wednesday, he was averaging 19.4 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Embiid has become one of the top shot blockers in the NBA already with his 2.4 per game. It’s also difficult to deny the 7-footer of an attempted shot. However, on Wednesday night’s game against the New York Knicks, it would be something, not someone, that blocked him.
During the third quarter, Embiid tried posting up Kristaps Porzingis and drove his body into the Knicks star. When he tried to create a poster-esque dunk, it would fail miserably with the rim stuffing him like no other player had before.
This is not something that will happen to the former 2014 draft pick every day, but he got ambitious when trying to dunk over a fellow 7-footer and could not extend his arm enough to reach the basket. This would end up leaving him in pain on the floor for a few seconds after taking a nasty fall.
Through three quarters, Embiid has a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 4-of-12 from the field. The rebound total is a season-high for him after hitting 11 in November 2016.
The Sixers have also had an interesting battle between big men for minutes. This has not included Embiid, though, as Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor were originally fighting for time at center and power forward. While Embiid has taken over a starting spot, Noel pushed Okafor out of the rotation with his recent defensive play and backs up the potential NBA Rookie of the Year candidate.

This play will not be one that Joel Embiid will want to remember. He may have to, though, if it ends up on TNT’s Shaqtin’ a Fool on Thursday.
