Former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn is set to become head coach of the relocating Chargers, and he’s the right guy for the job.

The Chargers are officially on the move to Los Angeles. The backlash the team has been facing has been abundant and it’s one of those situations where ultimately no one wins. To make things even tougher, the Chargers found themselves in the midst of a head coaching search that puts a future coach in an awkward bind. However, they may have the right man for the job who can relate to the situation in former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn.

Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday night, that the Chargers had decided on Lynn to become their next head coach. For a team that finds themselves stuck between a rock and hard place navigating the waters of relocation and anger among fans, Lynn is a guy who can provide a steady presence for a team that needs it.

Lynn may have not found himself in a relocation situation with the Buffalo Bills, but he knows the reality of taking over when fans are angry and upset. After an embarrassing loss to the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football earlier this season, the Bills fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

There was confusion among fans, experts and just about anyone that watched the situation unfold. Offense wasn’t necessarily the issue for the Bills in their loss to the Jets and yet the team let Roman walk.

Lynn stepped in at the offensive coordinator position and his first test was a tough one. The Bills were coming off of two losses to begin the season and were getting ready to face the Arizona Cardinals, who many still saw as a Super Bowl contender at the time and a team that offered plenty of dynamic players on the defensive end of the field.

What ensued was Lynn calling the plays and the Bills’ offense taking what they wanted from the Cardinals. The team responded, and more importantly, quarterback Tyrod Taylor responded to the changes. Taylor’s growth at the quarterback spot was noticeable and the team would then win four straight games.

The demise of the team’s defense ultimately kept them from reaching that next level and becoming a playoff team for the first time since 1999. The job that Lynn did with the team couldn’t be ignored though.

The Chargers find themselves in a spot where things look confusing as they enter the Los Angeles market. Interest in the team is down and the fans in Los Angeles don’t exactly seem like the type that are going to take on a new football team after acquiring the Rams from St. Louis last year.

It’s going to take a certain demeanor from the head coaching spot to give those that do stick with the team some hope. Lynn can draw on his experience as offensive coordinator of the Bills and carry what he did in a tough situation with him to the west coast.
