Here’s where you can play the Nintendo Switch before it launches
By Nick Tylwalk
Nintendo is bringing the Switch on tour before it launches in early March.
Nintendo showed the Switch off to the world on Thursday night. Its next step is to bring it to the people.
That’s being done through what the company is calling the “Switch and Play” tour, which will hit up several major U.S. cities over the next few months. Also Toronto, its lone Canadian stop.
As revealed on the official Nintendo website, here are the cities and dates for the “Switch and Play” tour:
- Jan. 15 – New York City – SECOND floor, 849 Avenue of the Americas; 10 a.m.
- Jan. 29 – Toronto – Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Hall A, 255 Front Street West, Toronto; 10 a.m.
- Feb. 12 – Washington D.C. – venue and time TBA
- Feb. 19 – Chicago – venue and time TBA
- Feb. 26 – San Francisco – venue and time TBA
- Mar. 5 – Los Angeles – venue and time TBA
Nintendo is also bringing the Switch to several gaming industry events, including PAX South, PAX East and SXSW.
Interestingly, several of those events, plus the L.A. tour stop, are after the system’s Mar. 3 wide release. Just a sign that Nintendo wants to keep the launch momentum going, or an ominous suggestion that there won’t be enough Switch units to keep up with demand at launch? You make the call.
If you’re interested in attending any of the tour dates, be sure to get there early. Nintendo advises that this a first come, first serve deal, expecting people to line up hours beforehand. Not “camping in line overnight” early though, as the NYC stop will not allow people to line up until 7 a.m. that morning.
