Andrew Shaw could be facing yet another suspension after a reckless high hit to New York Rangers forward Jesper Fast.

The Montreal Canadiens were happy to get Andrew Shaw and Alex Galchenyuk back in their lineup for their Saturday tilt against the New York Rangers. Following a very controversial and dirty hit, Montreal shouldn’t get too comfortable with them in the lineup.

Shaw, who is no stranger to suspensions, hit Rangers forward Jesper Fast high. For the hit, he got two five minute majors (one for fighting and one for interference). In addition, Shaw got a game misconduct.

This is an inexcusable hit by Shaw. He has to know better than this. The Canadiens traded for Shaw hoping to infuse their team with some character and leadership, but the two-time Stanley Cup champion isn’t doing much to justify the trade.

Shaw has 15 points in 29 games but also has 58 penalty minutes. He’s constantly costing the Canadiens with reckless plays like this. You’d think someone with his history would take it easy and know better, but apparently not.

Expect Shaw to get a suspension for this one. As if the hit wasn’t bad enough, the Canadiens forward has a history with the Department of Player Safety. As recently as the preseason, Shaw got a three-game suspension for boarding. Also, he threw a tantrum in the penalty box during a game against the Anaheim Ducks, though he faced no supplemental discipline. During the 2015-16 postseason, he got a one game suspension following a homophobic slur directed at a referee.

Must Read: 1 trade every NHL team should make

This is becoming a trend for Shaw, which has to be concerning. However, what else can the NHL do? They’ve suspended him and it hasn’t been working as a deterrent. Perhaps a longer suspension could be in order? Shaw’s history will unquestionably play a role in his punishment.
