New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis had a great game in the AFC Playoffs versus the Houston Texans, scoring touchdowns in three different ways.

The New England Patriots had their work cut out for them in the divisional round of the 2016 AFC Playoffs. While they were overwhelming 16-point favorites against the Houston Texans on Saturday night, they needed a lift from an unlikely source to thwart the Texans.

The star player for the Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round was running back Dion Lewis. Lewis is one of three running backs that play meaningful snaps for New England, along with LeGarrette Blount and James White. Lewis is the speed guy, while Blount is the power back, and White is the backfield receiving threat.

Well, Lewis showed he was more than just a speed back against the Texans. Here he is getting into the Texans’ end zone in three different ways. First with a 13-yard touchdown reception, then on a jaw-dropping 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and finally a one-yard touchdown run.

Lewis became the first player in the Super Bowl era to have a rushing, receiving, and a return touchdown in an NFL playoff game. He becomes the second player in the 2016 NFL season to accomplish this remarkable feat. Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Tyreek Hill did this against the Denver Broncos back on Sunday, Dec. 27.

Before Hill did it for the Chiefs, the last player to score in this manner in an NFL game was Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers during a 1965 regular season game. New England may have struggled early in their game with the Texans, but Lewis’ all-around explosiveness helps get the Patriots ever closer to their sixth straight AFC Championship Game.
