Some new Super Mario Odyssey gameplay was shown from Nintendo’s live Tokyo event for the Nintendo Switch.

If The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn’t enough to convince you to buy the Switch, then maybe something else will do it. When the console was first announced, we got a very small glimpse at a new Mario game in development.

It was a very short clip, so it was almost impossible to really say anything about it. But at the Nintendo Switch live presentation this past Thursday, the new game was officially revealed. Known as Super Mario Odyssey, this game sees Mario in a whole new area away from the Mushroom Kingdom.

It’s also a return to the open world 3D platformer style of gaming, which is what we’ve been longing for since Super Mario Sunshine. Needless to say, the game looks like a ton of fun, and hopefully, it’s a fresh and new direction for the series.

We saw a ton in that first trailer, but today, Nintendo revealed a new gameplay trailer. Although it doesn’t show much, it does show some of the movements and jumps that Mario will utilize in the game. By the way, it’s also in Japanese. Check it out below:

The new setting for Super Mario Odyssey is a city. You can truly compare it to something like New York City, which is full of cars, civilians, and buildings. It’s a great setting for a Mario game, and we can’t wait to see what we can encounter as we explore it.

Other than the city, many levels seem very similar to the other games, which is great as well. We hope that there’s a variety of stages that are each unique in their own way. It would also be great to see the city play a different role in the game. Maybe there are sites to see and hidden things to find.
