Marvin Williams still has some bounce, and he bounced all over the Boston Celtics.

It wasn’t that long ago that Marvin Williams was considered a bust. Williams, the number two overall pick in a draft that featured All-Stars like Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Danny Granger, struggled to find his footing as a not quite athletic enough small forward who couldn’t make threes. The struggles led to an unceremonious end to Williams career in Atlanta in 2012 as they shipped him off to Utah where he continued to struggle.

Fortunately, Williams has finally found a home in the NBA as a stretch-4 for Steve Clifford and the Charlotte Hornets to the point where he signed a huge four-year, $54.5 million contract with the team this summer. One of the keys to Williams’ emergence as a player has been the addition of an off-the-bounce game that works against slower power forwards. On Monday night, the Boston Celtics learned that lesson as Williams took advantage of a crease and threw down a big time jam.

That is a play that Williams didn’t make until his time in Charlotte. Steve Clifford has done a great job at allowing Williams to grow and the confidence he plays with shows it. Of course, it helps that Williams has added quite a bit of muscle. which gives him the power to make this dunk.

For the Hornets this can’t be the last time Williams makes a big play this season. Considering they currently sit at eighth place in the Eastern Conference, the Hornets need Williams and other players to step up alongside potential All-Star point guard Kemba Walker. If they are able to do that Charlotte could jump threaten a team in the first round of the playoffs. If not, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them miss the playoffs entirely, which seemed crazy at the start of the season.
