3. Fire Emblem Goes Mobile

Technically speaking, we knew that Fire Emblem would get a mobile app of its own about a year ago. However, one presumes that Super Mario Run took up a huge chunk of Nintendo’s time. Today’s Direct rectified that error.

The game has the title of Fire Emblem Heroes. As expected, it will replicate the series’ classic grid-based tactical gameplay, but on a smaller scale, optimized for smart devices. Additionally, it will feature characters from previous games in the series as well as new original characters, like the one pictured above. Sharp-eyed fans could spot that this blue-haired hero’s name appears to be Alfonse. Meanwhile, the heroine also shown off has the name Sharena.

Additionally, Nintendo will have in-game purchases for items known as Orbs, used to summon more classic characters. It appears that using multiple Orbs at once will make it cheaper to summon, so batch purchases may become the most efficient method of getting new characters.

We spotted characters from basically every game in the franchise, although the Direct focused primarily on characters from Awakening and Fates, with Lucina, Chrom, Xander and Camilla featuring pretty prominently in the initial trailer.

Fire Emblem Heroes drops on Google Play first on Feb. 2. An iOS release will follow. Interestingly, it didn’t sound like the game will be paid, but no details were given.
