The Houston Rockets scoreboard literally cannot handle Nene

Throughout his NBA career, people have said a lot of things about Nene.

Some people said he was an explosive athlete that created a ton of mismatches at both center and power forward. Others mentioned that he was one of the most underrated big men in the entire NBA. Unfortunately, one of the biggest criticisms of Nene throughout his career is that he can tend to disappear at times and not impact a game to the level his talent allows.

On Tuesday a new criticism arose though. That Nene doesn’t work well with scoreboards.

Really, that seems like a bad oversight. The Rockets acquired Nene in July so they had plenty of time to make sure this never happened. It seems like making sure players names show up on a scoreboard should be one of the first things to check in regards to game ops. Also, Nene has played in 18 home games this season per Basketball-Reference. Has this happened more than once? Who noticed this?

These are important things to know.

On the bright side it also seems like a simple fix. I’m not a computer expert but it seems like this is just a matter of a program reading things incorrectly. It shouldn’t last long.

That said Daryl Morey also made a mistake that shouldn’t be overlooked. This problem won’t occur with just Brazilian players. Leandro Barbosa, Raul Neto and Cristiano Felicio all go by two names. So all should have a last name show up without a problem on the scoreboard. This isn’t a Brazilian NBA player problem. This is a Nene problem.

Next: Isaiah Thomas is a giant

The last part of this is making sure Nene is not upset.  Over his career Nene has been known to be a bit moody. Something so simple to fix may bother him a bit. Houston needs to make sure this is smoothed over fast. Having your name not show up on a gigantic screen in the arena is kind of embarrassing. Hopefully Nene understands and just takes his anger out on the opponent at the next home game. If not someone in the scoreboard operating department is going to be in a lot of trouble.
