Joel Embiid needs more process chants (Video)
Joel Embiid is good for at least one high-quality video a night. We’re off to a good start.
Joel Embiid is the face of the franchise the Philadelphia 76ers have been looking for since they lost The Answer, Allen Iverson. Embiid even has the nickname to boot, The Process, in honor of former executive Sam Hinkie’s rebuilding process. Naturally, whenever he does anything on the basketball court at Wells Fargo Center, the home crowd serenades him with chants of “Trust the process!”
Joel Embiid kind of likes those chants.
It really is something to see a player like Embiid leading the Sixers — a bigger, cuddlier version of Iverson who loves the limelight and fully relishes in it. He is taking the league by storm in his rookie year, so much so that his signature chant is being used in visiting arenas. Embiid’s play has been so transcendent so far that even the great Hakeem Olajuwon sees himself when Embiid takes the court.
Embiid has 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists at the half as the Sixers lead the Toronto Raptors 46-44. He has been all over the defensive end, altering shots and playing aggressive defense. All this despite being questionable leading up to the tip with an illness.
Next: 2017 NBA Draft Big Board
The Sixers have won six of their past eight games and are hanging tough with the talented Raptors. It may not be a complete pipe dream to imagine them contending for the eight seed in the watered-down Eastern Conference. With top draft pick Ben Simmons set to return in the near future, the Sixers will get another shot of energy and a real creator to take some pressure off Embid.
Trust the process, indeed. Joel Embiid #NBAVote. My work here is done.
