What to love: There isn’t a more versatile defender in the 2017 draft class than Indiana’s OG Anunoby. At 6-foot-8 with a reported 7-foot-6 wingspan, he is able to use his length and lateral quickness to bottle up guards like he did against Kentucky’s Jamal Murray in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. His size also means he’s a viable defender against most frontcourt players, although he’ll need to add some strength to hold his ground against more imposing back to the basket centers. Anunoby has also been excellent creating defensive events this season, averaging 2.1 blocks and 2.2 steals per 40 minutes.
What to hate: The questions marks for Anunoby are all on the offensive end. Last season, he made a surprising 13 of his 29 3-point attempts, but he has regressed to just 31.8 percent from deep in 2016-17 as his poor free throw shooting should have suggested last season. Anunoby doesn’t have the above average ability to create that would help make up for his flaws either. The swingman is at his best cutting to the basket and using his athleticism to make plays above the rim, but beyond that, it’s tough to see how well his offense will translate in the NBA.
