Joel Embiid left the game briefly after sustaining a knee injury on a beautiful dunk against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Process has been working for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2016-17 season. One of the main reasons is due to Joel Embiid’s play during his first healthy season in the NBA. Philadelphia’s impressive play continued on Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers as Joel Embiid threw down an impressive dunk. Yet, the high-energy emotions quickly subdued after the star player limped off the court.
Impressively, Embiid dribbled by his defender, found space in the lane and flew in the air towards the basket. Sixers fans reacted with some loud jeers as Portland’s lead was cut to five points but that quickly subdued as the big man was hurt on the play. Luckily, the injury didn’t appear to be too serious as he jogged down the tunnel to the locker room.
Later in the game, the 76ers tweeted out an update on his injury. Luckily, Embiid can return to the game. In his absence, they took the lead against the Portland Timbers
Embiid has been a catalyst for this Sixers team. They are no longer the laughing stock of the NBA and tanking is out of their fans’ vocabulary. The team and the fans were patient through the “Trust The Process” phase and it’s paid off.
While Embiid missed out on being an NBA All-Star Game starter, he has brought life to Philadelphia. Fans want to come to Sixers games again as they continue to find ways to win games both on the road and at home.
At first glance, Embiid’s injury looked much worse. He awkwardly fell to the ground as his left knee twisted. Disaster was avoided as he only suffered a left knee contusion and returned to the game a short time later.
Update: Embiid will not be returning to the game for precautionary reasons
If any more becomes available in regards to the injury, we will keep you updated.
