Egypt face Uganda in the African Cup of Nations on Saturday, Jan. 21. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Both Egypt and Uganda are seeking redemption after both teams struggled in their opening African Cup of Nations Group D matches. Uganda fell to Ghana in a tight contest, while Egypt tied Mali in a somewhat surprising result.
Seven-time AFCON champions Egypt need to wake up before Saturday. If they don’t, then they could fail to make the knockout round. Before Egypt failed to qualify for the previous AFCON tournaments from 2012-2015, the African nation won three straight tournaments between 2006-2010. It would truly be a disappointment should Egypt not advance past the group stage.
On the other hand, Uganda are looking to pull off the upset. Those who love the underdog should be rooting for Uganda against Egypt. A win against Egypt would put Uganda in a tie with Ghana pending the result of Ghana against Mali. This is Uganda’s first AFCON appearance since 1978 when they finished as runner-ups. It would be a momentous occasion for Uganda’s players, coaches and citizens if they can make the knockout round.
