Sunderland are only a point from safety but recent form suggests they’re exactly where they belong, second last in the Premier League. Sunderland’s fate would already be sealed if it weren’t for Jermain Defoe, their leader and talisman. The ageless wonder has 12 goals, only two behind Diego Costa, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez for a share of the league lead.
Tony Pulis’ sides are always tough to beat and his current West Brom team are no exception. Many think they are overachieving, as the Baggies, with 29 points from 21 matches, sit in eighth spot in the Premier League.
They were comprehensively beaten by Spurs at White Hart Lane last week, but there’s no real shame in the poor, one-off result against the league’s best home team. They’ll bounce back. They always do in front of their vociferous supporters.
