Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel made a surprise appearance at the AFC Championship Game decked out in New England Patriots gear.

Johnny Manziel has finally made it to an AFC Championship Game…as a fan. After announcing his return on Twitter this week, Manziel has made an appearance in person in Foxborough on Sunday night. With the New England Patriots hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers with a trip to Super Bowl 51 on the line, Manziel made sure to be there.

He also decided to show up supporting the Patriots. Walking into Gillette Stadium, Manziel rocked the white Tom Brady jersey with a beanie and a scarf around his face in the bitter cold weather. He entered with a friend in Steelers gear.

While it’s good to see Manziel looking healthy after the shape he appeared in last year, this is all coming at a bizarre timing. Manziel made it known that he is ready to return to the league and hopefully be a quarterback again.

When he last left the league, Manziel struggled mightily as the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns and did not look anything like the first-round pick that they had had invested in him. While he was battling issues then, it’s going to be hard for teams to see anything out of his previous play that they might like.

For now though, Manziel is a fan like everyone else in attendance and he’s clearly going for the Patriots to make it to the Super Bowl and his home state of Texas. After a while of silence, “Johnny Football” is back. If he is able to make it back into the league, perhaps Brady can give the young quarterback a couple of tips.
