1. Bears 73, Redskins 0 — 1940 NFL Championship

While the 1999 AFC Divisional Round shellacking by the Jaguars is close to No. 1, it just can’t beat out the biggest blowout in NFL history. Not only did the Chicago Bears beat the Washington Redskins 73-0, they did it in the NFL Championship Game.

There’s too much to love about this game to talk about it in such a short blurb, but let’s hit the highlights. A big reason why this blowout is so memorable is the context, which is everything here. Three weeks earlier, the Redskins had beaten the Bears in a low scoring 7-3 affair. It was a game that prompted the-Redskins owner George Preston Marshall called Chicago out for being soft and “crybabies”.

Chicago responded by embarrassing Washington in the Championship game, intercepting quarterback Sammy Baugh eight times and compiling over 500 yards of total offense. It remains the most dominating margin of victory in the history of the NFL, heightened by the fact it occurred in the NFL Championship Game.

So no matter how awful the Packers feel after getting run out of the Georgia Dome, it gets so much worse than what happened. It’s hard to compare yourself to a 73-0 blowout but life isn’t as bad as it feels right now for Aaron Rodgers and company.
