Iowa State Cyclones

Last week: 12-6, 4-3 Big 12
Last rank: 4

It did not go the way it was supposed to, and it took two overtimes to get there, but the Cyclones did take care of business this week by knocking off Oklahoma at home in double overtime. Deonte Burton put up 31 points and Naz Mitrou-Long added 20 in the win. With Oklahoma sandwiched between top dog Kansas and a showdown with a strong Kansas State team, the game could have been a look ahead spot, and surviving the scare is all that matters now. The game against Kansas State will be a great measuring stick for both squads and then the Cyclones take to the road to face a Vanderbilt team coming off of an impressive home win.

West Virginia Mountaineers

Last week: 15-4, 4-3 Big 12
Last rank: 2

West Virginia came crashing down to earth this week and somehow see themselves as a the fourth place team in the conference standings so far. Still, with their guard play and coaching there should be no debate that they remain in the top three, but their trouncing of Baylor looks more like taking advantage of a spot in the schedule, than it does say that the Mountaineers are leaps and bounds ahead of their competition. West Virginia lost an inexplicable home game to Oklahoma before heading on the road and losing a nail biter against Kansas State. This was not the time to go on a skid as they now host the almighty Kansas Jayhawks at home before a tough test against Texas A&M this weekend.
