Hoop-Dreaming: DraftKings NBA GPP Plays forTuesday 1-24-17

Thanks for clicking!  I am going to be breaking down tonight’s DraftKings NBA action and discussing the various picks that are aimed to help win some money on DraftKings.  The picks are mainly geared for GPP tournaments and will carry more risk but also offer more reward.  After all, we are seeking to have one of our tickets be the winner amongst hundreds of thousands of other entries.

There are 6 games on the NBA schedule tonight and they are all expected to be extremely competitive considering the biggest point spread is 2.5 points.  The Boston Celtics travel to Washington to take on the Wizards in what should be an interesting game on multiple levels.  It also sports the highest point total of the night at 220.  Much to the relief of Los Angeles Clippers fans, Blake Griffin will be making his return from injury in a matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Of course, there are always injuries which will open the door for some players to significantly outperform their salary.  Make sure and check Fantasy CPR for other helpful NBA articles.  Also, don’t forget to look for lineup changes periodically throughout the day and especially before tipoff.  Also, you can find me in your GPP tournaments.  Let’s take a look at tonight’s games.

Point Guards and Shooting Guards

In a matchup of two of the quickest guards that the NBA has ever seen, John Wall ($9,400) will go toe to toe with Isaiah Thomas ($9,300) when the Washington Wizards host the Boston Celtics.  Both players need roughly 56 fantasy points in order to hit 6x value for their current salaries.  Wall plays better at home while Thomas is steady regardless of venue, it will be fun to watch.

The Phoenix Suns seem to have found the right combination of guards and it has allowed Devin Booker ($6,900) to grow and prosper while allowing Eric Bledsoe ($8,900) to be the undisputed leader of the team.  There is room for both guards to have positive outings against the Minnesota Timberwolves however it’s likely that only one has a huge game.

Looking to get back on track against the Suns will be Zach LaVine ($6,500).  Depending on the status of Ricky Rubio, LaVine could see a boost in playing time.  Even with a normal allotment of minutes, LaVine could hit 6x value.

With DeMar DeRozan out once again, Kyle Lowry ($8,800) will take on an increased workload for the Toronto Raptors.  His ownership percentage will be off the charts which leaves the door open for an excellent fade opportunity.  With other guards at similar salaries, Lowry is not a must-play tonight but is in line for a great outing.

Small Forwards and Power Forwards

He has only reached 30 fantasy points once in the last 7 games, but Danilo Gallinari ($5,400) has seen his salary drop accordingly.  The Denver Nuggets are a team with many capable contributors which makes Gallinari hard to trust but his salary puts him in the conversation.

Tonight the Los Angeles Clippers expect Blake Griffin ($7,600) to return from injury against the Philadelphia 76ers.  Make sure and check that he will be free of any minute-restrictions though as it could severely hamper his value.  This is a great salary for Griffin but there are question marks to with it.

The emergence of the two guards in Phoenix has come at the expense of T.J. Warren ($4,600) who has had two horrible outings in a row.  I’m not sure that I like this play, however hes’ hit 6x his current salary 42% of the time this year.  Warren is a definite dark horse tonight.

He will be playing in the second leg of a back to back, but Gordon Hayward ($7,200) has hit 5x value in 58% of his games this year.  Hayward has a high floor and a relatively high ceiling at this price point.  The Utah Jazz will be traveling after playing at home last night so there is a risk of a dip in performance from that angle.

Centers – The Men in the Middle

After sitting out last night, Pau Gasol ($5,000) is expected to play tonight against the Toronto Raptors.  Even with fewer minutes and a diminished role compared to the past, Gasol is still a threat out on the court and has the ability to throw back the clock.  Tonight could be one of those nights.

More from FanSided

The matchup of centers in Boston tonight features a couple of the more steady options in Marcin Gortat ($5,800) and Al Horford ($6,800).  Neither of these two are expected to have huge games, however they offer low floors to build your roster around.  Their salaries are in a great range for their capabilities and their point guards will be looking for assists.

Now that he has come back to reality, Rudy Gobert ($7,300) is worth a roster consideration tonight.  The Denver Nuggets frontcourt is tall but not very efficient which will allow Gobert to clean the glass at will.  It could get wild if he starts blocking multiple shots as well.

One major flier tonight is Joel Embiid ($8,300) who at his current value has hit 5x value 53% of the time but 6x value less than 7% of the time.  Embiid is likely to have a great game, however the monstrous outing may be out of his reach due to his minutes restriction.  Even though the potential is there and we’re still unsure of his ceiling, I like him better at a lower price point.

Thanks for reading and best of luck tonight!
