Are Jimmy Butler and the Chicago Bulls overachieving?

facebooktwitterreddit

In Jimmy Butler, the Chicago Bulls possess an elite NBA talent in his prime. Unfortunately, despite Butler being named an All-Star starter on the strength of the media and player vote, the Bulls find themselves under .500 a year after missing the playoffs for the first time in seven years.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg was hand-picked for a quick passing and 3-point shooting offense, but management has filled the roster with players whose skill sets do not match. The Bulls are currently last in the NBA in 3-point attempts and makes per game, and last in 3-point percentage.

However, despite the losing record and pieces that don’t fit, the Bulls are on pace to make the playoffs. So what should the goal of this season be? Can the team improve on their underwhelming results while still building for the future? And what is the plan going forward? All things considered, has their play really been that disappointing?
