Who is the No. 1 college football recruit that will be getting all of the attention during the 2017 National Signing Day?

When it comes to college football, recruiting is everything. National Signing Day is one of the biggest days of the year for the sport and where it’s the players end up choosing which program they are going to commit to. This is where schools put all their efforts into building an elite team that can compete for championships.

There’s just so many facets that go into recruiting and rankings have really put into perspective just how well some programs are doing compared to others. While the players ultimately prove whether the class was a good one or not on the field, every school wants to be able to boast having the best recruiting class.

24/7 Sports uses a composite rankings that pulls from all the recruiting databases and compiles them all into one ranking adjusted. They have Redlands, California weak-side defensive end, Jaelan Phillips as the top recruit in the nation at the moment.

Phillips is committed to the UCLA Bruins. 24/7 lists him as one of the most athletic defensive end recruits in the nation and even gave him their illustrious National Player of the Year ranking.

ESPN has another player at the top of their rankings of the top 300 recruits. Offensive tackle Trey Smith out of Jackson Tennessee is their top recruit. Smith is committed to the Tennessee Volunteers and will be playing his football there next season. He is a bookend tackle that Butch Jones is hoping can help lead the way on an offensive line that will compete for an SEC Championship.

Rivals has a different name atop the list. Future Alabama running back Najee Harris is listed as their top recruit. For a while, Harris was at the top of 24.7‘s list until they ended up updating their list. Harris has gotten a lot of notoriety for his ability to run the football and the fact that the best running back recruit in the nation is going to play for Nick Saban. Scout also has Harris listed as their top recruit for 2017.

The players at the top of this class are some exceptional players that are going to make their programs happy if they reach their potential. It takes more than one recruit for a program to accomplish what they want to but getting a standout talent makes life easier for head coaches in college football.
