Ted Cruz is in on the joke that Grayson Allen looks like him
Republican senator Ted Cruz kind of looks like he fathered Grayson Allen, and is apparently in on the joke.
By all accounts, Senator Ted Cruz is one of the least-liked politicians in Washington. He made an ill-fated run for his party’s nomination for President, delivering plenty of cringe-worthy moments along the way. As President Donald Trump comes into power and gets to work doing whatever it is he plans to do to make America great again, Cruz is attempting to get back in the good graces of Capitol Hill by running weekly basketball games.
If you recall, Cruz delivered an all-time low for a politician on the campaign trail by calling a basketball hoop a ‘basketball ring’ in hoops-mad Indiana.
In a profile of the “new Ted Cruz” by Politico, it seems the Senator hopes to rehabilitate his image into something not quite so repulsive even to conservative Republicans and that basketball will play a big part in that.
"Cruz appears intent on building—and in some cases repairing—personal relationships with Republican senators. He started a weekly basketball game in the Russell Building, for example, and has been urging colleagues to attend. (Cruz is said to be a surprisingly good jump-shooter with miserable form.) Tim Scott has played, and Marco Rubio is said to be joining soon."
In light of this news Deadspin put out a call to action for its readers and any political staffers in D.C. to deliver video of Cruz ballin’ out on the Hill. Allegedly, his jumper isn’t that bad (emphasis on allegedly).
Cruz came back with the best “formerly lame guy now trying to look cool” response possible.
No doubt, Grayson Allen, Duke’s most hated player since Christian Laettner or J.J. Redick does bear a striking resemblance to Cruz. The nose, facial structure, and hair line are all spot on. I suppose this is a better look for Cruz than the Zodiac Killer, but not by much. A self-aware Ted Cruz is a slight upgrade, even if it means we won’t be able to make him the unwitting butt of every good Internet joke.

All things considered, though, Ol’ Baketball Ring Ted still managed to end his exchange with Deadspin by taking the L.
Actually, scratch that. This round may actually go to Cruz.
What a time to be alive.
