New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan are on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Super Bowl issue.
The Super Bowl is just days away, and everyone’s eyes are turning towards the biggest game in sports. Quarterback Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons are looking to accomplish history, bringing the first Vince Lombardi trophy home to Georgia and derailing Tom Brady and the New England Patriots quest for destiny.
It is only fitting that the two quarterbacks looking to accomplish history highlight the cover of this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated. The cover line bills the game as a “shootout” and reads as followed: “Shootout: Brady vs. Ryan. Footballs Will Fly. Points Will be Scored. History Will be Made.”
You can compare the Super Bowl cover to issues previewing the big game in prior years on SI.com. The cover also highlights some other key stories in the issue. Tim Layden authored a story about how the Patriots overcame the four-game suspension of Tom Brady to start the season, the lingering effects of Deflategate.
Jonathan Jones tackles the other side of the big game, chronicling the history of the Falcons franchise and how the past decade has led the Falcons to their second Super Bowl appearance.
The highlight of the issue might be from Monday Morning Quarterback and writer Emily Kaplan, who has an in-depth exclusive with Fox Sports broadcaster Erin Andrews, who will be working the Super Bowl on the Fox broadcast. The piece is titled “The Pain You Can’t See,” and is a phenomenal read.
