Egypt face Ghana in the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The top two teams in African Cup of Nations Group D action battle it out on the pitch. Wednesday’s match between Egypt and Ghana is more about seeding for the knockout round than who doesn’t make the next stage of AFCON action.
Currently, Ghana sit atop the group with six points while Egypt have four points. The next closest team in the group is Mali with one point. Mali would need to defeat Uganda and have Egypt losing to Ghana to make the knockout round. Furthermore, Mali’s goal difference is currently -1 while Egypt’s is +1. A lot needs to go right for Mali to move onto the knockout round.
Overall, this match will be interesting to watch. Ghana and Egypt are two of the better African teams. If both teams play their normal roster, then this match could have a playoff feel to it. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if Ghana play some of their bench players in a starting role. Egypt may go for three points against Ghana but they will probably also put out a conservative roster.
