The Florida State Seminoles can put the finishing touches on an outstanding class by locking up these five recruits on National Signing Day.
With National Signing Day right around the corner, the Florida State Seminoles look to have another terrific recruiting class lined up.
Florida State has 22 total hard commits or enrolls so far and owns a 247Sports Composite score of 276.08, good enough for the No. 5 class in the nation. Running back Cam Akers, defensive end Joshua Kaindoh and all-purpose athlete Khalan Laborn are all among the top recruits in the nation, as Florida State’s class has both star power and depth.
Jimbo Fisher and his staff still have some work to do in the final days leading up to February 1. Florida State is still in play for a number of uncommitted recruits, as the Seminoles are locked in battles with the likes of Alabama, Florida and Ohio State for a few of the top high school athletes in the nation.
The Seminoles are expecting to compete for a national championship next season, and will likely need some contributions from freshmen to reach the College Football Playoff. Landing these five recruits would round out Florida State’s class while giving the Seminoles a bright future.
5. Levi Jones, LB
The Seminoles are currently targeting recruits on the defensive side of the ball to help improve a unit that struggled in the first half of the season. While Jones might not get a chance to play much in 2017, he would be a great addition to the class on signing day.
A four-star linebacker out of Austin, Jones quickly rose up recruiting boards after recording 116 tackles, six sacks and four pass breakups as a junior in high school in 2015. Jones has great athleticism at 6-2, 210 pounds and has shown the ability to make plays behind the line of scrimmage while also providing sound pass coverage.
The Seminoles should be in good shape at linebacker next season with Matthew Thomas, Jacob Pugh and Ro’Derrick Hoskins set to return. All three will be seniors, so Jones would be an important piece for the following season and would compliment JUCO transfer inside linebacker Adonis Thomas well.
While the Seminoles appeared to be the favorite for Jones in December, Florida made a huge push with an official visit last week. Grabbing Jones from the rival Gators at the last-minute would just make his commitment all that much better for the Seminoles.
