Jameis Winston – 2013 Heisman Winner

But what about the quarterback that was taken ahead of Mariota? Well, Jameis Winston never suffered from a lack of attention, even during his high school days. Winston was famously a two-sport star, having played both football and baseball at Hueytown. Here’s his high school football mixtape.

He was heavily pursued in both sports – he committed to the Seminoles while getting picked by the Texas Rangers in the same year. He had a composite ranking of No. 15 in 2012, but perhaps his potential baseball career prevented him from being ranked even higher.

As an Alabama native, the Crimson Tide and Auburn gave Winston scholarship offers. However, he joined Jimbo Fisher’s team, and within his first year of starting, he won a national title. His second year wasn’t as great – he went from throwing 40 touchdowns to 10 interceptions to 25 and 18. But he impressed the hell out of NFL scouts by engineering so many come-from-behind wins and finishing with a 13-0 regular season record.

While Winston’s college career was turbulent off the field, he was outstanding on the field. He also won the Heisman over AJ McCarron, who he probably would’ve sat behind had he joined Alabama. Needless to say, becoming a Seminole was a great decision for his career. He’s also displayed some great maturity at the NFL level, having left his ugly past behind him.

With Roberto Aguayo, Antone Smith, and Javien Elliott joining forces with Winston, the Buccaneers have really become FSU Senior. But Jameis has lived up to the pressure that comes with being a first overall pick, and a trip to the playoffs could come sooner than later.
