4. Johnathan Lovett, 3-star RB (Burlington, N.J.)

The recruitment of three-star running back Johnathan Lovett has been interesting, so say the least. In fact, the former Rutgers commit was rumored to be a silent commit to Michigan State following his official visit last weekend but the tides have turned in a different direction as he took a trip to Baylor on Jan. 20.

Many believe that he’s now leaning toward the Bears instead of the Spartans which would be a big blow to Michigan State’s 2017 class makeup. The Spartans do need to add some depth at the running back position and Lovett’s film is extremely impressive.

Michigan State has had success placing running backs in the NFL under Mark Dantonio. Javon Ringer was the first to be drafted, Edwin Baker found his way onto an NFL roster, Le’Veon Bell is currently the best running back in the league and Jeremy Langford could be a solid starter.

Lovett just needs to look at the long list of NFL-caliber backs under Dantonio and realize that the Spartans are one of the best at producing pro talent in the backfield. Baylor has the weapons as well, but there haven’t been many successful running backs from the Bears in recent years — albeit there is a new coaching staff in town.

A decision should be coming soon for Lovett and it’s likely between Baylor and Michigan State. He’s ranked the No. 403 overall prospect and No. 29 running back in the 2017 class.
