Dion Waiters would rather shoot 0-for-30 than 0-for-9

After having the best month of his NBA career, Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters’ confidence is at an all-time high.

With no Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh around, the Miami Heat are sitting with a record of 19-30. While there’s a slim chance they can still make the playoffs, it’s not likely to happen in a crowded Eastern Conference.

However, one of their bright spots has been none other than Dion Waiters, who earned Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors. After all, Waiters did hit back-to-back game-winning shots against the Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets.

With his confidence sky-rocketing, Waiters is starting to feel himself and who can blame him?

"“I’d rather go 0 for 30 than 0 for 9 because you go 0 for 9 that means you stopped shooting. That means you lost confidence.”"

If this quote sounds familiar, it is. It is because it came from Kobe “Bean” Bryant.

"“Deron Williams went like 0-for-9. I was like, ‘Can you believe Deron Williams went 0-9?’ Kobe was like, ‘I would go 0-for-30 before I would go 0-for-9. 0-for-9 means you beat yourself, you psyched yourself out of the game, because Deron Williams can get more shots in the game. The only reason is because you’ve just now lost confidence in yourself.’”"

When fans catch wind of Waiters secretly comparing himself to Kobe, he can definitely expect some backlash from critics. Sure, scorers should have this mentality, because shooters shoot.

At the same time, something tells me Waiters doesn’t have the leeway Kobe did because one guy is a first ballot future Hall of Famer, while the other guy will probably never make the All-Star Game.

To Waiter’s defense, you can’t knock the man for having confidence. Everyone should think highly of themselves, but there’s a fine line between being confident and delusional.

In this case, Waiters is the latter.
