For those gamblers looking to refine their betting chops before the Super Bowl, six matchups adorn the NBA schedule this evening.

The night kicks off with the suddenly-hot Washington Wizards hosting the consistently-inconsistent New York Knicks. The Wizards, looking for their fifth straight win, are a tough nut to crack: 19-6 at home, 8-14 on the road; 27-20 overall, but 20-25-2 against the spread. The Knicks, meanwhile, are fresh off a heartbreaking four-OT loss to the Atlanta Hawks and Carmelo Anthony trade rumors are at a fever pitch.

After running the table in the Atlantic Division for most of the season, the Toronto Raptors have now lost six of seven and find themselves looking up at the Boston Celtics—just in time to face a mended New Orleans Pelicans squad that’s beginning to show signs of life.

The road-weary Houston Rockets return home after a 2-3 trip to play the Sacramento Kings. If nothing else, the game should at least be entertaining: The Kings’ last six contests have been decided by five points or less, including two that went into extra minutes.

The San Antonio Spurs have shown they’re mortal. And after two consecutive losses to the bottom-feeding Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks, they’ll look to avoid a bona fide slump when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder have won seven of their last 11, but when they lose, they lose big: Each of those losses have been by 10 points or more.

The Charlotte Hornets’ Kemba Walker just received his first All-Star selection. The Portland Trailblazers Damian Lillard is wondering what else he could have done to earn his entry. Both will try to prove their worth when their respective teams take the court. The Hornets are in the midst of a four-game skid.

The Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers are clearly going in opposite directions. Even while banged-up, the Nuggets have won seven of nine and have found a future centerpiece in Nikola Jokic. Contrastly, the Lakers, losers of eight of nine, seem to be in full-on tank mode.
