Oregon Football Recruiting 2017: 5 must-have recruits for Ducks
- High School: Rancho Verde
- Composite Rankings: No. 416 overall, No. 61 WR
While Bryan Thompson isn’t the most highly coveted wide receiver prospect in the country, there’s a lot to like about his game. The size and length for him to develop into a true No. 1 is there as he stands a 6-3 already. You’d like to see him add muscle as he makes his way into the college game as his 190-pound frame leaves a bit to be desired.
With that said, we’ve seen Oregon’s ability to not only recruit high-quality skill-position players, but also to develop them properly and make them weapons. While that wasn’t under Taggart, that’s a trend that’s likely to continue with the new head coach running the show. Oregon seems to be in the driver’s seat in regards to Thompson’s recruitment, but they need to be sure to lock it down when the time comes.
- School: College of San Mateo (JuCo)
- Composite Rankings: No. 20 overall JuCo, No. 3 OT
Obviously adding high school recruits is pivotal to building a successful program, but so too is effectively working junior college transfers. It looks to be a foregone conclusion that the Ducks will be able to add a high-caliber offensive tackle in George Moore. While listed as the No. 3 tackle in the composite rankings, 24/7 Sports has him as the No. 1 at the position coming out of junior college in this recruiting round.
At 6-7, 308 pounds, Moore is an absolute load on the edge of the line and has proven to be polished in his technique from the work that he’s done at the College of San Mateo. He has solid athleticism for a man his size and the length to really cause defenders problems in getting around him on the edge. For the Ducks to help block for Royce Freeman and then others moving forward, Moore would be a huge addition for Oregon.
