Updated WWE Elimination Chamber 2017 card: Who is John Cena facing?

How is the WWE Elimination Chamber 2017 match card shaping up?

The WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view may have just concluded on Sunday, but SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber will follow it up on February 12. This is the Blue Brand’s first exclusive show of 2017 after wrapped up 2016 with TLC.

Like their last solo PPV, this will be a gimmicked show focused around the Elimination Chamber. This will see the WWE Championship defended inside this structure for the first time since 2014. The Chamber also hasn’t been used since the 2015 show.

Heading into SmackDown, we knew that John Cena would defend the show’s top title in less than two weeks. However, everything else about the match card would be up in the air. While not every question would be answered, the Elimination Chamber match field came together in the opening minutes of the show. Below are the participants for the bout:

  • John Cena
  • AJ Styles
  • Dean Ambrose
  • Baron Corbin
  • The Miz
  • Bray Wyatt

The winner of this match may be headed to WrestleMania 33 to face Randy Orton, the 2017 Royal Rumble victor.

Despite this being the only match set for the event at the Talking Stick Resort Arena, other potential in-ring competitions would be teased. This includes one for a title and plenty involving the women of SmackDown.

American Alpha would issue an open challenge for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Instead, they had five tag teams interested in facing them for the belts — Heath Slater and Rhyno, the Usos, the Vaudevillains, Breezango, and the Ascension. Given that there are six duos here, could that mean we’re headed toward the second-ever Tag Team Elimination Chamber match?

We could also be in for three women’s matches. The first would be for the SmackDown Women’s Championship with Alexa Bliss defending against Naomi. Nikki Bella and Natalya, and Becky Lynch and Mickie James also had their feuds highlighted on January 31. Could that mean we’re getting each of these pairs going head-to-head?

The final match on the card may be Dolph Ziggler vs. Apollo Crews. These two have brawled a few times since the Showoff’s heel turn and could be headed toward something at the Elimination Chamber.
