Arizona QB Carson Palmer: “My house isn’t on the market”
By mdelaney
Rumors that Arizona QB Carson Palmer may be leaving football (or at least, Arizona) were squashed by Palmer himself earlier this morning.
Speculation has been swirling in Phoenix for the past month about the future of Carson Palmer. In part because Palmer’s decision could influence franchise cornerstone Larry Fitzgerald’s retirement as well. The other part is the Cardinals could find themselves in the uncomfortable throngs of quarterback purgatory where they were from 2009-2014 following Kurt Warner’s retirement and prior to Palmer’s signing. However, Palmer made it clear he hasn’t looked that far ahead.
“No, my house in Arizona is not on the market,” Palmer said in a statement from the Cardinals to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. “And every year we have taken off for offseason family adventures so there’s nothing to read into there either.”
This is a strong statement from Palmer, but not a definitive one. He has yet to report to team officials about his return in 2017 and has left the team on edge with previous statements such as this one to Dan Bickley of the Arizona Republic, “Nothing is ever official until it is, but I’d like to play if my body responds the way I hope.”
Arizona head coach Bruce Arians hasn’t gotten much in terms of clarity from Palmer either. Palmer’s last words to Arians about returning were, “‘I’ll let you know soon’, just like Larry (Fitzgerald),” Arians said to Bickley. “The way he played down the stretch makes you believe he’s coming back, but he got beat up pretty good last year. So you never know.”

Palmer enjoyed his best year in 2015 with career-highs yards, touchdowns, TD-INT ratio, passer rating and quarterback rating. However, a dismal four interception performance against the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship game bled into the 2016 regular season where Palmer returned to putting up average numbers. He was also under constant duress as 25 sacks in 2015 ballooned to 40 in 2016.
