A look at Florida State Football’s 2017 recruiting class.

More often than not, Florida State has walked out of National Signing Day with a successful recruiting class under head coach Jimbo Fisher. Before getting to the climax of the 2017 recruiting season, he has a group of players that ranks among the best in the nation.

The 2017 class is already headlined by three five-star recruits, via 247Sports.com. It’s led by running back Cam Akers, who could fill in immediately for Dalvin Cook. The stud FSU tailback is declaring for the 2017 NFL Draft, ending his three successful seasons in Tallahassee. Akers has been committed since December 27, 2016, so he jumped in at the right time to potentially be top running back for the upcoming season.

Right behind Akers is the second five-star prospect, weak-side defensive end Joshua Kaindoh. He committed on December 23, 2016. There should be a spot in the Florida State defensive line rotation for Kaindoh, most likely a starting position. This will help reload the front seven and provide a potential force for this school for years to come.

The third five-star player is all-purpose back Khalan Laborn. He’s been committed to Florida State since last July. Despite Akers already replacing Cook, there should be plenty of room for Laborn as an offensive threat out of the backfield and as a pass-catching option. If he can and Akers can produce early, along with Deondre Francois’ development, then this could be an intriguing group to watch for in 2017.

Below is the rest of the Florida State recruiting class, which will be updated throughout National Signing Day.

To take this class to another level Florida State could add wide receiver Devonta Smith to the fold. He took an official visit to the school on January 15 but is also being recruited by Alabama. Fellow wide receiver Henry Ruggs III is another option. Like Smith, he’s also getting targeted by the Crimson Tide.
