Florida State Football Recruiting: 5-star DT Marvin Wilson commits to Seminoles

Episcopal (TX) DT Marvin Wilson made his declaration to spend his college career at Florida State University.

The Florida State Seminoles couldn’t be happier heading into the 2017 season. They ended up snagging Cam Akers and Josh Kaindoh from the market, two of the most elite high school players in the region. It’s pretty fair to say that Jimbo Fisher will be loaded with the incoming talent. If any school, not named USC or Alabama, has had a nice National Signing Day, it was Florida State.

The five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson had a boat load of thinking to do for his future in football. Out of the remaining five-star recruits, Wilson was a toss-up. He grew very fond of LSU and Florida State with Ohio State and Oklahoma lurking in the picture. But before landing all these options, Wilson plowed through high school with his 329-pound stature. Don’t let that fool you, though. He can complete the 40-yard dash in 5.13 seconds.

While in high school, Wilson spent his playing days at Episcopal in Bellaire, TX, which is minutes south from Houston. After being the recipient of a dozen offers in 2015, Wilson made his first ever official visit to the University of Oklahoma in 2016. Shortly after, Wilson finished off the year with some quality time in Tallahassee and Columbus.

Wilson would remain uncommitted throughout the start of 2017, despite visits to Baton Rouge and South Florida, where former Texas Longhorns coach Charlie Strong now coaches.

Florida State will bring in 22 recruits after Wilson’s announcement. It also marks the fourth five-star recruit to sign up for Fisher’s team. On defense, Wilson might be able to make an immediate impact, since most of the defensive line is composed of underclassmen. If he is to suit up for Saturdays, Wilson will likely see playing time earlier in the season.
