With National Signing Day finally upon us, Michigan State football announced its 2017 recruiting class with potential surprises coming.
Coming off a 3-9 season, the Michigan State Spartans are hoping to piece together a strong recruiting class. While there haven’t been many additions since the start/end of the season, it can be considered a win that no one has de-committed.
Actually, that’s not entirely true. Three-star wide receiver Raheem Blackshear flipped his commitment from Temple to Michigan State just a week ago, but rumor has it he visited Rutgers without telling the staff and Mark Dantonio cut him loose. Other than Blackshear, the class has remained intact.
Matt Dotson is currently the top-rated pledge, along with Kevin Jarvis. Dotson is a four-star tight end from Ohio who could play early on with departures of Josiah Price and Jamal Lyles. Jarvis, a four-star guard, will be looking to move up the depth chart for an offensive line desperately looking for fresh talent.
Antjuan Simmons, a former Ohio State commit, is the other four-star commit for the Spartans. The linebacker is from nearby Ann Arbor and might just play with a chip on his shoulder as it seemed like Urban Meyer didn’t treat him as a priority.

Michigan State had just three early enrollees this cycle after having a handful from the 2016 class. Four-star wide receiver Hunter Rison, son of Spartan legend Andre Rison, leads the way along with three-star cornerback Josiah Scott and three-star tight end Jack Camper. Rison could be an instant contributor for the Spartans.
Take a look at the 2017 Michigan State recruiting class. The list will be updated throughout National Signing Day.
As you can tell, the 2017 class has the potential to grow into one of Dantonio’s best, even without the major stars like 2016’s. Keep an eye out for these guys a couple of years down the line as Dotson, Bridges and Rison might just become breakout stars.
