Michigan State has not been able to get a letter of intent from recruit Donovan Winter because the defensive end was arrested on Monday night.
National Signing Day is one of the biggest days of the year in college football. It’s a day to recognize the best recruits in the country as they sign their national letter of intent to a program. Sometimes things go wrong and recruits don’t always end up signing with a school. There’s a weird situation going on with Michigan State defensive end commit Donovan Winter and it appears he won’t be signing with them or anyone.
When National Signing Day began, Winter was nowhere to be found at Bishop Moore to make his announcement. The Orlando Sentinel was able to get to the bottom of the issue and reported that Winter was arrested on Monday night for the burglary and larceny of a firearm. His arrest is the reason why he was not able to sign with Michigan State.

Winter was a standout transfer for Bishop Moore in his senior season. He led the team in tackles and had quickly emerged as one of the best weak-side defensive ends in the nation. Now, his future is up in the air in the moment and he won’t be able to take the next step on National Signing Day.
The Spartans are trying to reload this year after a down season. They have recruited plenty of defensive ends and Winter was just one of many talented ones expected to join the program. The incident in Florida changes things.
There are always snags on National Signing Day and Winter now has to evaluate his future if he still has one in college football. For now though, the Spartans and everyone else has to move on while the court system does their job.
