Notre Dame football has fallen off in terms of performance, but a strong 2017 recruiting class bolstered on National Signing Day would be huge
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are one of the most historic programs in all of college football. If you watched Brian Kelly’s group in the 2016 season, though, you might not have been able to tell that. Despite players like DeShone Kizer, they simply weren’t the caliber of team that the fans in South Bend are accustomed to seeing. That makes their 2017 recruiting class and National Signing Day that much more important.
Leading into Wednesday, though, Notre Dame has plenty to be excited about in regards to their commits. They’ve landed two huge weapons at tight end already in the form of Brock Wright and Cole Kmet. Wright and Kmet are the Nos. 2 and 3 players at the position, respectively, in this class and can be weapons immediately both as pass-catchers and blockers in the running game.
Also headlining this class for the Fighting Irish coming into National Signing Day is a slew of top-200 ranked offensive linemen, notably including Robert Hainsey, Aaron Banks, and Joshua Lugg. Though they may have to wait a bit to play behind an already loaded line, they will make an impact as soon as they see the field.
Here’s a look at the full 2017 recruiting class for Notre Dame on National Signing Day:
However, the Irish certainly aren’t going to stop there, even though the class they have coming in stands out.
Next: Predicting where top 25 uncommitted recruits sign
Notre Dame still has eyes for a playmaking athlete on offense in Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah who has tremendous upside as a three-star recruit. On the other side of the ball, the Fighting Irish would love to scoop Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa from under USC to add as a defensive end capable of being a productive player on the strong-side. If they’re able to land these top targets left unsigned, you’d have to mark National Signing Day and this 2017 class as a success for Notre Dame.
