The South Carolina Gamecocks have the No. 21 recruiting class of 2017. Here are all the players that committed to South Carolina on National Signing Day.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have put together a fine recruiting class in the second season of the Will Muschamp era in Columbia. According to 247Sports, the Gamecocks have the No. 21 recruiting class of 2017.

South Carolina has 21 commitments, five of whom early enrolled. The Gamecocks have four four-star recruits and 17 three-star recruits. Here is a look at every member of the 2017 recruiting class for Muschamp’s South Carolina program.

South Carolina’s four four-star commitments are cornerback Jamyest Williams (Loganville, GA), wide receiver OrTre Smith (Mount Pleasant, SC), athlete Shi Smith (Union, SC), and defensive end M.J. Webb (Madison, GA).

Williams is the crown jewel of this class. Given that Muschamp specializes in the secondary, there is a great chance that he could get some early playing time as a true freshman in 2017. That is probably a big reason that he has remained steadfast to his commitment at South Carolina.

Smith early enrolled with the hope of getting more familiarized with the route trees that co-offensive coordinators Kurt Roper and Bryan McClendon will want to run will only speed up his playing time as a true freshman.

While it would have been nice to see South Carolina target a quarterback this recruiting cycle, it wasn’t a necessity for this SEC program. Muschamp seems to have something special in true sophomore Jake Bentley. Quarterback woes were what ruined Muschamp with the Florida Gators. He’s clearly all-in on Bentley as his guy going forward.

Outside of ignoring quarterback, this seems to be a solid class Muschamp has put together. Emphasizing all levels of the defense will only aid in getting this program back on track. Adding plenty of perimeter weapons should help the offense as well.
