Tom Davies, the 18-year-old English phenom, is playing with more experience than his impressionable age suggests. Fearless, committed, quick and energetic, Davies injects the kind of verve and gusto into the team that Everton were previously lacking.
Idrissa Gueye is back from the Africa Cup of Nations but won’t be available for selection, so Gareth Barry or new signing Morgan Schneiderlin should start alongside Davies.
Schneiderlin, who cost the Toffees £24 million, hasn’t started since arriving at Merseyside, further evidence of how well Everton are playing.
Romelu Lukaku goes into the game with 12 league goals, three behind co-top scorers Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez.
Playing against Stoke at the bet365 Stadium, however, is something few teams look forward to. Stoke are unbeaten in five at home, their last defeat coming against Bournemouth in the middle of December. Stoke have won two and drawn three during the streak, outscoring their opponents 7-3 while keeping three clean sheets.
Mark Hughes has confirmed that January signing Saido Berahino will be a part of the squad for Wednesday’s game.
